Wet weather ruling

Message from League Chairman Rizwan Siddiqui, April 26, 2012:

Although much needed, the recent and predicted heavy rain has caused havoc with our first phase fixtures with several matches already abandoned/cancelled this week, which as you know determine divisional placings for the majority of the season.

These past two days committee has been discussing how best to deal with this so as to ensure competitive cricket for as many (if not all) teams for the greater part of the season and we have unanimously agreed the ruling below; which is in effect from the beginning of the 2012 season until the end of the first phase matches. In all other instances Rule 17 applies.

"Where two teams in the first round cannot play each other due to rain and where both captains are in agreement, the game and the two points shall be awarded to the higher seeded team ( based on the previous years relative league positions).

"If both captains are not in agreement, the league will endeavour to (although cannot guarantee) arrange an alternative date for the fixture to be replayed.

"Where the fixture cannot be replayed then Rule 17 applies , i.e. 1 point each."

As this is a new, retrospective ruling please contact me if you have any queries related to this. If you wish to replay your fixture please contact Pete Hollman asap.

John Challinor of Tower Hamlets CC, reporting on cancelled match v Pumas, April 25: "Both sides agreed to call off the match at 4pm. Shortly afterwards I inspected the ground and concluded that we had made the right decision as the pitch was under water and there was surface water on parts of the outfield."
