Old Ranwellians v Mad Morrocas
|
Monday 25 June 2012, Victoria Park |
Old Ranwellians won by 4 wickets
Old Ranwellians won the toss and chose to field first
Mad Morrocas: 135 for 4 in 16 overs
Old Ranwellians: 139 for 3 in 14
Old Ranwellians confirmed their return to winning ways with a victory over
the gritty and determined Mad Morroccas despite both teams affected by
prolific absence of their regular 8s. With Greening stuck in the Austrian
Alps and unable to make the toss stand-in Captain Eaton won the flip and
took the Ranwellians into the field attempting to mimic last week's solid
performance against division contenders New Boys.
Morroccas fought valiantly to record a respectable 135 despite having to
find 6 players at the last moment. Charlie with his excellent eye found the
boundary a fair amount and a couple of vpccl regulars helped the score on
after coming in at 5 & 6. Ranwellians learnt an important lesson in that
when someone comes to the crease with no gloves, do not get them out - at
all costs.
With wickets like gold dust lately and in the spirit of cricket they ground
away at the batting attack taking scalps where they could and hindered
progress. Ford even managed a VPCCL rarity - the lbw - which was so plum
even ****** would have given it out. Despite a huge final over of 17 (all
scored somehow from foot-breaking yorkers) Morroccas ran to a respectable
total.
Special mention must go to Li who bowled impeccably for 2-21... and no
extras. With a pieced-together team themselves Eaton and Hudson set about
the 8-ish an over task and rose to the challenge. A partnership of 44
against fill-your-boots bowling took them well past the run rate until Eaton
fell.
Greg got himself run out before a comfortable Hudson brought out the old
faithful slog to a fielder. At this point Ranwellians still had the upper
hand and the innings was seen out by the hard-working and energetic Nash who
farmed the strike and allowed us all to witness the batting genius of Sung.
Hitting 26 in one over at a point the result came quickly and ruthlessly.
With the scores tied and Sung needing 4 to hit his milestone he sent one
more glorious shot crashing to the boundary amid cheers and delight from the
Ranwellians who will be discussing his efforts for many Noodle King nights
to come. A match that had it all and one that rescued Ranwellians' broken
season.
Thanks to Morroccas for playing in great spirit and to all who played
despite horrific luck with player availability. Also thanks to Terry and the
iPad app. Those wagon wheels look so great!
