Sky's ultimately disappointing 2009 campaign came to an end with the
consolation of a comfortable victory over the new league champions, The
Ducks.
Having won the toss The Ducks unsurprisingly chose to bat on the smallest VP
ground - Pitch 1. Sky's bowlers however worked well as a unit to restrict
the powerful Ducks batting line up to scrambling for signals and hustling
for twos as the boundaries dried up. Catches were held (unlike in the
previous week's semi-final) and the ground fielding supported the bowlers
efforts to such a degree that Ducks could only manage 149-5 off their 16
overs.
Sky went into the break confident of knocking off the runs and so it proved
to be.
A solid opening partnership by Aleem Hussain (29) and Shakeel Durrani was
backed up by an exhibition of power hitting by Dinesh who dispatched the
Ducks attack to all parts, knowing that on 49 he needed 1 to retire - he
decided to display his mastery of the bowlers by depositing the very next
ball over the path for a huge six.
With just 21 needed off 3 overs Javed Soomro and Rizwan Siddiqui saw Sky
home with 8 balls to spare.
What if Sky had beaten Cally.... or Island....what if indeed !!
If the truth be told we did not play well enough over the length of the
season to deserve any more than we ended up with, the tables do not lie. The
Ducks were the better team over the season, our congratulations to them and
finally, we eagerly look forward to renewing the challenge in 2010.
