East London Community
|
| Monday 3 August 2009, Victoria Park |
Caledonian Conquerors won by 14 runs
Caledonian Conquerors lost the toss and were put into bat
Caledonian Conquerors: 155 for 2 in 16 overs
Mohammed Nadeem 52*
Sajid Rehman 36
Adnan Ahmed 31
East London Community: 141 for 7 in 15.3
Cally's final league match was ended in controversy as fading light
swamped in due to a late start and teams not reducing the overs. However
both captains agreed to carry on as it was the last game of the season.
Cally's set East london a challenging 156 to win, in a highly charged
affair. Some controversial wide calls by inexperienced Cally's umpires set
the tone for a hostile encounter. East London were also buoyed by the fact
that Cally's had rested some key personnel as they had one eye on the cup
final on Wednesday night.
Mohammed Nadeem continued his good form with the bat as Cally's attacked the
orange ball from the start. Saj Rehman 34 and Adnan Ahmed 31 kept the
momentum of the innings going through to the end.
East London kept up with the required 9 an over but with wickets falling
throughout and the light fading badly, Cally's employed spin bowling. 19
runs were required to win off the last over but East London fell short as
Maruf Gave a catch straight back to Cally's spearhead bowler Ali (who was
once more trying his hand out at spin).
Well done Cally's for finishing the league season on a high. League runners-up and a berth in the final is not a bad season for a team that is still
gelling with some new signings this season. Good Luck East London For next
year and see you soon at the deciding 'friendly' ... yes lads I still have a
sense of humour !
