Sky won the toss and elected to bat on a dull and overcast evening. With the conditions in mind the VPCCL president asked us to try out the new Orange Ball and both captains duly obliged.

Bert - 'Thumbs up to the Orange Ball'.

Denish and Safraz Ahmed opened their batting with blistering pace taking 32 off the first 2 overs, however Cally's bowlers were fired up for the challenge as they had failed to beat Sky in the VPCCL since the 2005 season.

Anser Mahmood replied with 2 quick wickets in the 3rd over. Waqar Ali, who had conceded 5 fours in the previous over also responded with 2 wickets in the 4th over. Sky had capitulated from 32 without loss to 51 for 4. From then on in it was a re-building exercise executed handsomely by Imran Khan 53 and Javed Soomro 19.

They helped Sky recover to a respectable but below par total of 124. Cally's finished the Sky innings with spin as Mohammed Zulfiqar impressed on his Cally's bowling debut getting Jahangir Ahmed plum in front without scoring. Cally's skipper Saj Rehman also chipped in with 2 wickets in the 14th over.

Cally's started thier innings cautiously having lost Rick Davies in the second over (bowled by Hasan Mohammed). However, once the Mohammed brothers, Nadeem and Fazal were set, they set about tearing apart the Sky bowling attack. Mohammed Fazal retired on 53 after hitting 5 sixes and 1 four in his innings.

He was assisted by younger brother Nadeem 37 not out who also hit 5 fours. Waqar Ali 18 Not out and Zulfiqar Mohammed 10 not out saw Cally's home with 1 balls to spare. This game was thoroughly enjoyable and played in the true spirit of the game.

Well done Sky and Cally's for the fair play award. This is how cricket should be played.
