Tufnell Parkians' cup run was ended in emphatic fashion by an awesome
batting display by the 'Mercurial' Amir Khan of Caledonian Conquerers.
Having won the toss Cally's started the innings in positive fashion with
openers Ali Mohammed (24)and Sajid Rehman (19) putting on 58 without loss in
the first 6 overs.
The heavens opened up and the rain was the temporary
saviour for the Parkians. They took 5 wickets for 4 runs as the Cally's
innings was in tatters at 62 for 5 in 8 overs.
Tufnell Parkians were dreaming of a giant killing act, however Amir Khan was
'in the zone' and everything he hit was dispatched to the boundary. he
retired on 50 and Tufnell Parkians made the error of trying to bowl out the
Cally's.
Amir was back at the crease with 5 overs still to play. At 88 Khan
need 12 runs off the last 4 deliveries to hit a maiden century for the 2009
VPCCL season. A dot ball was followed by 2 runs a 4 and then ended with a
smash over the ropes for 6. Assisted by Rick Davies playing the defensive
role Khan guided Cally's to a competitive 183.
Set a challenging 184 to win the Parkians innings started in disasterous
fashion losing 3 wickets off the fisrt 2 overs. The wet ball meant Cally's
main strike bowler Waqar Ali tried his hand at spin, taking 2 wickets off
his first 2 balls.
With some ruthless fielding the Parkians folded for a
paltry 34. Cally's had posted thier biggest win of the season winning by a
mammoth 149 runs.
