Having made history last week by wining their first ever cup game in 5
seasons of trying, Island Community CC doubled their lifetime total of cup
victories with a win over London Wanderers in the 2nd round.
Wanderers won the toss and elected to bat, and thanks to a number of
dropped catches by Island's fielders, quickly ammassed 160 off their 16
overs, with Rob Morgan retiring on 50* after some big hitting.
A couple of fast yorkers gave Jack Stollery top bowling figures of
4-0-31-2 but none of Island's bowlers were spared Wanderers onslaught. It
looked like a good total to defend on pitch 2.
Island's reply saw Kirk Fleming and Tanjeem Chowdhury repeating their
good form of the season so far and it was a boundary midway through the 6th
over that took Island to 74 without loss and brought up Tanjeem's 5th half
century retirement of 2009 (22 balls).
Kirk was joined by Rob Jones but soon followed Tanjeem back to the
pavilion (well, shade of a boundary side tree!) as a huge 6 brought his
retirement on 54* of 30 balls.
Rob scored 38 not out and Mo Rahman 7* as Island passed Wanderers
target without loss and with 3.1 overs spare.
