Ditch provided a stern test for a complacent Caledonians Outfit. The
scorecard probably does not tell the full tale of a run fest on Pitch 2.
Due to the late start the game was reduced to 13 overs a side. Ditch
forfeited the toss and Cally's elected to bat. Cally's Skipper Saj Rehman
and in-form batsman Mo Fazal opened the batting at blistering pace taking a
rate of almost 15 an over before Fazal was caught plum in front by the
deceptive pace of D Brown in the 6th over.
The score was 73 before the 1st wicket fell. Saj Rehman retired after
scoring his half century leaving the last four overs for the Cally's Middle
order to exploit. Cally's set the guest side a competitive 159 to win off 13
overs. Ditch chased well and had the Cally's fielders regularly collecting
the ball from the trees lining the boundary of pitch 2.
At 90 runs off 7 over the game was evenly poised. Needing 68 to win
off 6 overs Ditch had Cally's pondering an embarrasing 1st round exit.
In came Mohammed Siddiqui into the attack after changing ends and the
wind assisting his floaters he clean bowled 3 Ditch players and with 1 LBW
he took his best figures of the season to date. 4 for 26 in 3 overs. A
devastating spell that concluded the game in Cally's favour.
