Tower Ravens won by 90 runs
Tower Ravens won the toss and chose to bat first
Tower Ravens: 153 for 6 in 16 overs
Ajmal 47
Ian 44
Rose & Crown: 63 for 7 in 10
Dennis 2-23
Ajmal 2-23
Kirk 2-11
On a sunny evening on the wide expanse pitch 3 at Victora Park, a strong
Ravens side, buoyed by the return of Kirk Berry for his first Ravens
appearance for nearly 2 years, looked to return to winning ways following a
disappointing defeat at the hands of East London a week earlier.
Having won
the toss and electing to bat, the Ravens were in early trouble losing 2
quick wickets with the score on just 13. This brought to the crease Ajmal
and Ian who, with some attractive stroke play, put together what proved to
be a decisive 99 run partnership for the 3rd wicket.
With quick runs added
lower down the order, with some lofty blows hit by new Raven Ben, the Ravens
closed their innings on 153 for 6 - an impressive score given the accurate
nature of both Rose & Crown's bowling and fielding.
In response, Rose &
Crown found the pace and accuracy of the Ravens bowlers difficult to contend
with. Opening bowlers Dennis and Ajmal put the shackles on from the start
and took key early wickets and with the Ravens producing an impressive
display in the field, including a spectacular catch by wicketkeeper Paul of
the bowling of the returning Kirk, bundled Rose & Crown out for 63 off just
10 overs.
Acting Ravens captain Paul said after the game: "This was a great
response to our defeat last week at the hands of East London. Rose & Crown
came into the game on the back of a good result against Contenders and we
thought this would be a very tough match. To win by a margin of 90 runs
shows the overall quality of our performance as a team tonight".
