Callys notched a rare and welcome victory over Island. Callys captain Saj
finally one the toss and batted on a beautifully sunny evening.
Jack opened the bowling for a depleted Island side and sent down a spell of
testing disciplined swing bowling making great use of the new orange ball.
The other Island bowlers struggled to match Jack's control and once Nadeem
had departed runs flowed steadily from the bats of Fazal and Sajid.
Fazal was particularly deadly square of the wicket and reached his fifty
with a minimum of fuss. Sajid promoted himself up the order to great effect
and regularly found the gaps with a range of unorthodox strokes.
New recruit Mujahid was content to play himself in before unleashing an
onslaught that saw him take twenty from a single over sent down by the
hitherto parsimonious Ravi. Callys had set their first defendable total in a
few weeks and Island were soon behind the rate.
Callys bowled tight lines with Fazal and Janzib proving particularly
difficult to get away and Mujahid impressing behind the timbers.
Island fought hard to the end with Mo, Ravi and Jack all impressing with the
bat and Jay producing one of the shots of the day as he crisply drove Callys
best bowler for four in the last over.
The game was played in a great spirit and the Island players did themselves
great credit despite missing some of their best players.
