Donnington MONSTERS OF ROCK/DOWNLOAD comes to Vikki Park for the VPCCL
2011’s final game of the season. UHH? What? Okay, if you were a heavy metal
band’s lyricist then two things from last night’s game would come to the
fore as inspiration.
NOVEMBER RAIN (albeit AUGUST) and as Iron Maiden would suggest, FEAR OF THE
DARK ..We had it all! The Mad Morrocas skipper won the toss and elected that
his team bat first. 102 all out!
Dom & Brendan scoring 16 runs apiece, Rob got 11 & Jimi and Charley chipping
in with 10. In amongst the run fest, Mungo was a tad unlucky to be given out
leg before ..with the Cavaliers skipper, the ubiquitous blond Bullit Steve
Williams winning the appeal.
Steve ended up with figures of 2-13 of 4 overs. Vice captain, Cain KING
Duncan bowled without luck but the rain gods did allow him to finish off 4
overs with figures of 2-25.
The Cavaliers left-handed combo of Sheriff Ross(co) Arnold and Phil the
POWER Price bowled with guile and determination and were rewarded with
figures of 2-14 and 0-12.
Lord Lucan Solanki bowled loosely enough to take 1-11 off 2 overs. His lone
wicketing furrow was thanks to the drizzly handiwork of Ken Marshall (LAW)
as he stumped Dom. In the field Rob (no relation to Steve) Waugh and the
(Thatch) Maroof Ahmed, aka the DArK KniGhT, were exemplary, skidding,
sliding and throwing. Bravo!
When the Mad Ms went out to field the midges also came out to irritate the
Cavaliers, but they taste good (allegedly). Jimi & Mike bowled their 4 overs
straight with Mike taking 2 wickets for 26 runs. Steve chipped in with 16
runs but the KING, CAIN DUNCAN, who seemed to be doing a fine impression of
Charles Bronson in Death Wish, was the key to the run chase, 41 runs until
he was clean bowled by the ice block, Charley.
So it was left to the Cavaliers left-handed combo of Sheriff Ross(co) Arnold
and Phil the POWER Price to finish the run chase, with 22 not out and 2 not
out respectively. It was dark by this time ..and time waits for no man.
Especially not for the Cavaliers jester, Phil - he had a train to catch to
..SOUTHAMPTON.
A nice journey home with a victory in his back pocket. To end, the rioters
had their fun in the sun a couple of weeks back, HOWEVER. the Mad Ms and the
Cavaliers were given the opportunity to play the VPCCL’s first ever
day/night game of cricket. WE MADE HISTORY. So long till 2012 (dependent on
the OLYMPICS ruling for the usage of the park).
