Martin Berry of Norfolk & Chance reports:
Having been plagued by poor attendance and having only started with eight
players three times this season, a real fear of being well short of players
on an England football night caused the team whips to pull out all the stops
and Norfolk & Chance turned up eleven strong to play Stan Foley’s bunch of
Fives.
Batting first, Nayan and Najum put on 81 between them. Overseas player Ross
impressed all with a dramatic 51 not out (8 fours, 2 sixes) and Freddie
retired on 17 to allow Brad a crack but there were simply not enough overs
for Brad to show his true worth.
A little worried about slow play, numerous field changes and the possibility
that Fives would play the bad light card, Norfolk & Chance unleashed their
celebrated very slow bowling attack which sliced through the Fives batting
order.
Casey looked very strong with the bat scoring 14 of three balls only to be
caught of a very promising hit and Bilal put on a well earned 16 runs before
being dismissed by the sort of catch that Norfolk and Chance players do not
usually make.
Elated by the average performance, Norfolk and chance retired to the pub for
the end of the football and much talk about the possibility of silverware,
the next three rounds of the VPCCL cup and even tactics for the final
against Sky or Traditional Corsairs
