R&C's Mick Reid writes: The Rose and Crown triumphed over Goldman Sachs last night. GS were put
into bat by R&C and got off to a galumphing start; smiting the ball often to all parts of the boundary.
R&C dropped two sweeping swirling steeplers in the deep in a wind of increasing velocity from the south
west. R&C were only able to field seven eligble players due to a sudden
glut of holidays.
GS I think, were approaching fifty or sixty without loss when heavy rain bowled in on the wind. The rain made it both
difficult to bat, bowl and field.
Then wickets began to tumble.
R&C finally held a catch and Iain Heaphy, slow bowler gleaned four good
wickets. Two LBWs, a bowled and a caught behind.
GS were bowled out then for 102 in 11 overs; they to only fielding seven players as one of
there assembled number was declared ineligible as he had not played in
the League.
The rain continued to sweep in and R&C's innings was delayed for fifteen minutes or so. The rain eased then stopped. R&C cruised to
victory as the sun returned, the evening a mirror image of itself on a time-line.
Sean Feeney retired at 50 with 13 runs needed, having been ably supported by Brian McLelland, 29 not out; extras scoring probably
as many in the gloaming.
