Ed Maris of Reuters writes:
Black Rose won the toss and elected to bat.
On a dry and sunny Monday evening the 1st round of the league cup commenced with great anticipation. Walking past the nets I noticed the boys of Black Rose keenly warming up and I prayed that none of my lads had been grabbed by their management or had any little emergencies this week.
Black Rose started slowly losing wickets early on. Their opener miss-timing a pull shot in the first over and being caught with a wonderful diving catch by Insha Syed at square leg, then their captain, after being pinned back by accurate bowling, finally succumbing caught behind to Elliott.
When forth man Shah was yorked leg stump by Insha, it was looking bad with nine overs gone 30 odd runs on the board, but importantly Sam still remained giving them hope. Vinnay came in and from the start played positively and a good partnership developed with Sam.
After some great hitting, including a beautiful six, Vinnay finally lost his wicket, but with a very solid 41 by Sam, gave the Black Rose a fighting chance taking their score up to 94.
Reuters' openers started cautiously and we lost Andy early, bowled off his pads by Peter. Wicket keeper Jimmy was next in and from the start punished Roses' inaccurate bowling.
Jimmy had already had an excellent game behind the stumps and rounded off his day smashing the ball around and Black Roses' confidence. The end finally came with 4 overs to spare and another big six by Jimmy taking his personal tally to 44 and the total to 97.
Adam finished with a tidy 32 not out and with great bowling figures of 10 for 1. |
