Wednesday 26 June 2002, Victoria Park
Grasshoppers 1 won by seven wickets

(Javed 77*)
Grasshoppers 199-0 (14.2 overs)
(Zi 122*, Anton 72*)

Jamal Ahmad of Mola Jutt writes:

Drop catches cost matches!

I had a funny feeling when we won the toss and elected to bat first.

We were up against the side that inflicted our only defeat last season.

We started off well with 15 runs off the first over.

The openers (Saif 30, Naz 26) did a decent job putting on 50 odd for the first wicket, then Javed took over and kept doing at a decent pace.

When the third wicket fell off the last ball of the tenth over, we had notched up 95 runs.

I walked in at number five and smashed the first three balls out of the boundary.

But it wasn’t to last as I got out after making 22 off 7 thus ending my proud run of notouts in every inning thus far.

Next in was Farooq and he too swung his bat to good advantage and ended with 20 handy runs.

But it was Javed who was the star of the day finishing unbeaten on 77 and aiding the team add 103 runs in the last six overs.

198 was a very decent effort by all means.

But it wasn’t to be.

Grasshoppers had all the luck they needed as a total of NINE catches were floored! It was most definitely our worst day in the field.

Even the ground fielding was miserable to say the least. Every single change was missed and the batsmen rode their luck to full advantage.

Zia (122*, dropped 6 times) and Anton (73*, dropped 3 times) did play very well and hit some top shots.

In the end the Grasshoppers won with ten ball to spare.

This defeat makes the league standings all the more interesting and our next game against Pacific COULD end up being the league decider.
